This poem was printed in the December 1862 edition of The Southern Illustrated News and offers a wry view of the difficulties Santa Claus might have encountered attempting to run the Union blockade on his holiday rounds.

Many thanks to Virginia Mescher of the 42nd Virginia Infantry Regiment, who finally found this poem on microfilm in the Library of Virginia after many years of seeing only snippets reproduced in articles about Christmas in the South during the War years.
