Following his wounding at the Battle of Yellow Tavern on May 11, 1864, J.E.B. Stuart was carried to his brother in law's house in Richmond, where he later died. Because the fighting continued to rage around Richmond, Stuart's burial in Hollywood Cemetery was carried out in great haste and with little ceremony, accompanied by the booming of Union cannon.
