As the War dragged on, goods of all sorts became scarce in the
Confederacy. Imported fabric was one casualty of the Union
blockade, and many an elegant Southern belle was reduced
to wearing garments made of simple homespun material.
This song was sung to the same tune as Harry McCarthy's
"The Bonnie Blue Flag", which was a melody known as
"The Irish Jaunting Car."
